andrew barlow fine art

Welcome to my site.

This serves as an online portfolio of work I have done to date . On display is a combination of commissioned portraiture and paintings done for the  gallery market. Work which is available to purchase will be marked as such.

My career as an animal painter started after my studies in fine arts. I became involved in painting race horses and sporting horses as well as stud animals. This has consistently been the mainstay of my work which was later to move into specializing in polo pony portraiture. I have also  developed other forms of portraiture, both animal and human,  for the fine art gallery market.

I now work to secure  a select and limited number of pony string portraits; due to the demanding and exacting nature of the work, and  the rest of my time is spent on less formal subjects.

Through the polo portraiture I have had the good fortune to travel the world and paint some exceptional ponies for some of the worlds top polo teams. A highlight came in 2012 when I was commissioned to paint the strings of ponies on  which Lyndon Lea, patron of Zacara rode to victory in the US and British Polo Opens.

I have worked for many and varied clients and all of my commissions are treated with as much attention and finished to the highest level as possible, regardless of whether the subject is a high goal pony or simply a riding school pony!

I am based in Cape Town, South Africa and  if possible, I travel to where my portrait subject is as I insist on seeing and photographing my subjects myself.

If you are interested in my portrait services please contact me and I will answer all queries and give more details to the arrangement and costs of a commission.

Otherwise, I hope you enjoy the paintings displayed and hope that you return frequently to see updates.
